Spooky Season Safety: Protecting Your Pup on Halloween

Halloween can be a fun and festive time for families, but for our four-legged friends, it can also be confusing, stressful, and even dangerous. At
Puppy Play and Stay, we care deeply about your dog’s well-being, which is why we’re sharing our top tips to help keep your pup safe and happy this spooky season.

Watch the Treats

Halloween candy is a big no-no for dogs. Chocolate, especially dark or baking chocolate, is toxic to dogs, and sugar-free candies with xylitol can be deadly even in small amounts. Make sure to keep all candy and treats well out of reach, and remind any children in your household not to share with the dog, no matter how cute their begging eyes may be!

Keep Costumes Comfortable

Dressing your dog up can be adorable, but make sure their costume fits properly and doesn’t restrict movement, vision, or breathing. Avoid costumes with small, chewable pieces or anything that could become a choking hazard. Always supervise your dog while they’re dressed up, and if they seem uncomfortable or stressed, it’s best to skip the costume altogether.

Create a Safe Space

The doorbell may be ringing constantly with trick-or-treaters, and that can be overwhelming for dogs. If your pup gets anxious with noise or strangers, consider creating a quiet, cozy space in a back room where they can relax. Playing soft music or turning on a white noise machine can help drown out the sounds of the night.

Be Cautious Outdoors

If you’re taking your dog outside during Halloween festivities, keep them on a leash and stay alert. Costumes, masks, and decorations can confuse or scare even the calmest dogs. Never let your dog roam off-leash on Halloween night.

Board with Confidence

If you’re going out for the evening or need a quiet space away from the hustle and bustle, consider boarding your dog with us! At Puppy Play and Stay, we provide a calm, safe, and caring environment where your dog can relax while you enjoy the festivities.
